直接生地に触れることで、汚れを取ったり、シミを抜いたり、染に使ったり、こする事で、洗いに使われる一番の重宝物。

最近は、機械で水や溶剤を生地にたたき付け、ブラシの代わりとして使われるものもあるが、要所、要所のブラシの仕事上がりには、かなわないところも多く、マルヤでは、襟や袖口の洗いやゆすぎ出しには、活躍しています。

平安、室町、江戸、、、それぞれの時代に活躍してきたこの道具も、長い年を伝えられて今の時代も立派に活躍している。
